Livestock for Sale
Spring 2024, I am offering a variety of sheep options and later in the spring - JERSEY CALVES, which I know are in short supply in our area. Animals are listed from highest to lowest price (though some may include more than one animal).
Lambs, calves, and kids are vaccinated at four and eight weeks, which should be boosted annually thereafter. Ewes are vaccinated annually. For 2024, I am not milking so any bottle babies are given species-specific formula until weaning age of eight weeks, sometimes a little longer. They have access to creep feed, hay, and grazing. Ewes are not dewormed this spring, so there is no milk withholding. All animals are not on any medicated feed and are healthy unless specifically noted otherwise.
(Last updated April 18, 2024 - 3 ewes are still due to lamb)

Registered Jersey Heifer Calves ($TBD)
I will be selling a very limited number of registered Jersey bottle calves acquired from a commercial Jersey dairy and top Jersey breeder in the US. I will be purchasing all A2A2 girls and possibly a few A1A2 girls, which may cost a little less though other milk production attributes should still be very good. Most will still be on the bottle and will need to be bottle fed until at least eight weeks old. The calves all will have had a genetic dairy profile test confirming their A2A2 status. The Jersey breed registration is not complete or available at the time of purchase, but is usually completed by the dairy after about 60 days, at which time I will forward it to you. They all have a tag in one ear and a "button" in the other that should not be removed as it is their lifelong identification and verification of their registration and match to the DNA testing.
Calves have been raised on Jersey milk, but I will transition those not weaned onto Country Companion calf formula available at North 40 in Couer d'Alene. They will be transported with bedding and offered hay and water en route as well as an electrolyte solution mid-transport to help ease the stress of travel. They will range in age from over two weeks to weaned, but top genetic profiles will likely not be the weaned calves.
I do not hold any calves even with a deposit. They are first come, first choose. I will post the dates I am taking appointments when I have my transporting schedule worked out. Those who contact me first will be offered appointments first, which gives the option to come earlier for first pick of the calves. I expect that they will be stressed from the travel and change, but all will be healthy when leaving the dairy, and we will try to keep them supported as much as possible. However, I do not offer any health guarantee. Scouring is less common after the first two weeks of life (so I will not get the very young), and the mid-day electrolytes offering is designed to help support them through the stress. Once home, they will need shelter as our weather changes are more than they are used to at this young age and can cause stress and scouring.
They should be small enough to fit into an extra large dog crate or covered back of a pickup. I will not sell/release them for transport into the back of a pickup without a crate, camper, or other way to secure them, and a tie-out or leash does not count. Please bring any needed manpower to lift them into your vehicle. We have space for trailers to turn around if you have one. They are not halter trained. We are unable to provide delivery.
Prices are expected to range from $700 - $1,000, but will be listed out, along with information about the calves, once it is available. No group pricing discounts are currently offered.

Ram Lambs ($350 each)
I am accepting back up request for the rams. They are reserved without a deposit and occasionally the sale falls through.
RESERVED #0208 2024 White Ram Lamb: born February 28, 2024. Large white ram lamb (a twin) from a large white ewe who is my top producer. Dam-raised. He's got great lines and is growing beautifully. May throw white or black lambs. $350
RESERVED PENDING PICKUP #0210 2024 "Jack" black ram lamb born March 6, 2024. He had an assisted delivery, weight 9 lbs 8 oz (huge) with two brothers who weighed 8 1/2 and 9 pounds each. Jack needed to be pulled when born and suffered some stress to his left shoulder nerves. His left front leg made it difficult for him to stand or walk, much less complete with his brothers to feed. We supplemented him with the bottle, which turned into his preferred and only source of milk. His birth injury improved and was fully resolved by the time he was three days old. He has no residual indication of this problem. As a result of being a bottle baby, he is very friendly, but he is also very gentle. He has a raspy soft voice and a straighter more "hair-like" coat, but he's a beautiful specimen. His dam is a top producer.
Yearling Dry Ewes ($300-350 each)
I have 2023 ewes who lambed this year and rejected their lamb. As I am not milking this year, I let them dry up after giving their lambs colostrum. These yearlings are available, if interested. I typically save them to sell them bred in the fall or as part of a starter flock in the fall. The drawback to you is that they cost more (must buy in a group or I charge more once they are bred), but they will either come with a ram or be bred and ready to lamb and milk next year. The benefit to buying a yearling over a lamb is that they reach their mature milk production one year sooner. They are also more likely to accept their lambs the second year - or at least I experience a much lower rejection rate among my non-yearling ewes.
If interested in dry (not producing milk) 2023 ewes, a starter flock in the fall, or bred 2023 ewes in the fall, feel free to email me and let me know. I will contact you when I am ready to list them, or I can let you know what I have available if you would like some sooner. If buying multiple dry ewes in the spring or early summer, they are $350 for the first two, then $300 for each subsequent dry 2023 ewe purchased at the same time.

Ewe Bottle Lambs ($200 each)
These girls have been on the bottle after getting colostrum from their dam or another dam on the farm for the first 24-30 hours. They have had no medications or medicated feed, but are vaccinated at four and eight weeks. I will not hold lambs but will schedule times to pick them out on a first come, first served basis if you are able to pick them up within a few days. They will need to continue to be fed until eight weeks old and weigh about 25 pounds.
Once they are weaned, they are $300 each until fall when they are $350. Once bred, they are $400 each if purchased in the fall or early winter.
To answer a question I get asked a little to often: no, these girls are not in milk. They are babies and need to grow up, be bred, and lamb before they produce milk. Their first year, they usually produce about 50-60% of their mature production, year two is usually about 80-90%, and after that it is entirely dependent on their capacity, health, and feed quality and quantity. My mature ewes average about three quarts a day total (not shared with lambs).
