CATTLE FOR SALE

A2A2 Jersey Heifers

SOLD OUT FOR 2025

I am pcking up Jersey heifers from a top Jersey breeder and dairy in Tillamook County, Oregon this spring. I am bringing back extras to sell to cost the cover of my trip and share the joy of owning your own milk cow with others in this area. All the heifer calves received colostrum, are well-fed at the dairy, have been disbudded if not polled, and have ear tags. All will be registered within about 60 days after purchase in your name by the dairy of origin (unless getting a non-registered calf). They will need shelter from the elements, especially while it is cold. They are being fed 4-6 pints of milk twice daily and will need to continue to be bottle fed. All heifer calves will have DNA testing, which will be available to you after I pick them up. Prices I charge are directly related to what the dairy charges. This is what I expect they will cost spring 2025 when I pick them up:

A2A2 disbudded 3-4 week old heifer calf: $1,000
Add $50 for each additional week of age (a dairy surcharge)
Add $100 for polled (may not be available - wasn't in 2024)
Discount of $50 if A1A2 profile
Discount of $50 if not registered

Not registered and A1/A2 calves require a $400 deposit by cash, Zelle, or Venmo per calf the week of pick up. These calves are harder to sell if your purchase of them falls through, thus the deposit. After I get the list of available calves on Wednesday before pick up, I will need the deposit that Wednesday or Thursday so I have a complete list of calves for the veterinarian and brand inspection on Friday (or Thursday afternoon) to allow me to legally transport them interstate.

See below for more details about this process.

Spring Calves 2025

SOLD OUT FOR 2025

This spring I plan to purchase a couple of Jersey heifer calves from a commercial dairy in Tillamook County, Oregon. Last year I did the same, and I also purchased additional calves to sell to cover the cost of the trip. I've purchased dairy calves before, but these were the best I've seen so despite the distance, I'm going back. Last year I purchased 14 Jersey heifers, all the registerable A2A2 girls they had available at that time. This year I'm adding bull calves to the mix.

If you are interested in purchasing one or more Jersey heifer or bull calf from me (as described below), please email or text me:
  • Your name
  • Your email
  • What you are interested in (how many of which gender - female = heifer, male = bull)
  • Phone number (now or at the end of March)

I keep a list of potential buyers (see the bottom of this page). No deposit is required to be included on the potential buyer list. I have already contacted the dairy where I purchase calves to let them know I am purchasing a group again this year. I have requested my pick-up date for Saturday April 26, but this will not be confirmed until the end of March. I am working with the dairy to select the week when they expect to have the most A2A2 heifer calves available.

I will email out periodic updates usually starting the end of March. I will include a calf care sheet and request those new to this process review it. I request that buyers respond to that email to let me know if they are or are not interested still, if their requested number has changed, and if they prefer younger or older calves. For those who are still interested, I also ask for their phone numbers if it has not been provided already. I use this to text pictures of the group once they are picked up. I will also text along the route with anyone I have planned to meet on my way home.

My priority in this trip is to pickup heifer calves first then fill extra space will bull calves. If there is a large load of heifer calves, I many not be bringing back enough bull calves to meet all requests. Even for calves destined for the freezer, my goal is also 100% survival through the transportation process and related stress response that may not show up for several days.

Prices
My prices are based off of what the dairy charges and change if the dairy changes their prices. Last year, they increased their prices from the beginning of their calving season (January) to when I picked them up in May based on heavy demand. This year is also higher, but I still feel that the quality of their calves make them a good value. The price not only includes the calves, but their genetic testing and registration for heifers. If the price increases between now and pick up, you are not obligated to purchase them or lose any deposit. The price will be firm if your calf requires a deposit. Brand inspection and health certificate specific to you and your destination (if you chose to have them) are an additional cost, which I can let you know closer to time.

Tentative Schedule
I am tenatively planning to pick up calves after their Saturday May 3 morning feeding. I then drive home all day from Tillamook County OR to Harrison ID but will make short planned stops along my route to meet buyers to help cut down on their drive time and reduce the stress on the calves (one trip instead of two). While I would love to be flexible with this, I will have a short window of time when we meet and will plan the location of my stops to reduce total travel for the whole group of calves. If you want to meet me along my route, please let me know the general area (town & state) where you are located.

If not meeting me along my route, the calves are available for pick up at my homestead in Harrison, Idaho on Saturday evening or Sunday. Any of the 3-5 day old calves must calves (bull calves and meat-cross calves) must be picked up on Saturday either along my route or at my homestead - no exceptions. For this reason, all bull calves will require a deposit to be pre-paid prior to my picking them up (Zelle or Venmo), which will be forfeited if not picked up on Saturday. The deposit will not be required until the week of pick-up when I have confirmed with the dairy the number of heifers and bull calves available. I will hold heifer calves for specific buyers Saturday and Sunday only. The following Monday (and each Monday after that), the price of the calves increases by $50. Even though there is more flexibility with picking up the heifer calves, my goal is to get them moved in their their family as soon as possible.

Schedule is Subject to Change
Despite a confirmed pick up with the dairy, the date may change. Last year the DNA results that came in the planned week of pickup had only three A2A2 Jersey heifers in the whole group, so the pick up was postponed to when there were 14 available plus two non-registered A2A2s. That one week was an anomoly, but it does have the potential to happen again. The number of bull calves available is also highly variable and may come up short of the number requested. I will provide updates the week scheduled for picking up calves.

Registration
At the time of purchase or after, please let me know what you plan to call the calf - just a simple name such as "Bessie" or "Loretta Lynn", which the dairy will include in the registered name. I will also need your mailing address and the owner name you would on the heifer's registration. I will then pass all of this information on to the dairy. The dairy waits to accumulate this information from many buyers to batch enter them so  they ask for 60 days. Last year the registrations actually took 70 days, but they were all processed. The registration should then come in the mail with the information you provided me. Bull calves and non-registered heifers do not need to worry about any of this as they are not registered.

Guarantee

I do not offer any health or survival guarantee for any of the calves I have transported once they are transferred from me to you. There are just to many variables outside of my control. Calves are usually pretty solid travelers when they are three weeks or older, but the the young bull calves are especially vulnerable to scouring. I will not knowingly sell you a sick or injured animal without telling you first. I provide some information in a calf care sheet I email out the end of March. You are welcomed to inspect the animals thoroughly yourself, with an animal-savvy friend, or a veternarian at your expense.

Health Certifcate & Brand Inspection
I obtain a health certificate for the group of calves, but this is not a guarantee, either. Health certificates are issued by veterinarians after they inspect the group of animals for any obvious manifestations of diseases that they may spread to animals or people in another area. That said, last year I had no deaths or illnesses among the heifer calves. I have not transported very young bull calves before, and I am concerned for potential mortality with them due to their young age. I do request all buyers to please notify me if any of their calves are sick or die within two weeks of getting them. This provides me good feedback to help avoid such losses in the future.

If you would like a health certificate and brand inspection in your name with your address as the destination, please notify me of this prior to the week when the pick up is planned. I will coordinate with the dairy of origin to have additional documents prepared for you. Specific animals must also be selected, so I will need to coordinate more closely with the dairy to respect the order of potential buyer requests. The costs last year was $35/health certificate and $35/brand inspection recipient + $2.75/head, so $72.75 for one calf, $75.50 for two, etc. Prices this year have not been confirmed.

I obtain a brand inspection and health certificate for the entire group of calves in my name with my address as the destination prior to transporting them since I'm crossing state lines. I provide a copy of this to each buyer after the sale. I will also email you a receipt indicating you purchased the calf, the date, and price. A couple of months later, you should recieve the registration in your name if getting a registerable Jersey. These documents all help establish ownership if you later need to sell or transport your Jersey and prove ownership in the future.

The Potential Buyer List
My potential buyer list for 2025 is full. Please let me know if you would like to be added to my list for 2026.
