Introduction to Small Dairy Husbandry

This event is designed to introduce individual new to small dairy animal husbandry (including some discussion about dairy cows) who would like ideas of potential setups and farm flow. I will share information I have gathered over the years of research as well as experience. My focus is on the homestead and small farm, not commercial operations. I try to address topics senstive to a range of land sizes as well as budgetary restrictions. I am also in a position to compare and contrast keeping the different species of dairy animals. Please be warned, my homestead is in a constant state of evolution and has not reached the final state of model homestead (if that exists).

9:00 - 11:00 am

• ​Cost $25 per person, 100% of which may be applied towards the purchase of a female dairy animal from me within three years.
  • Any children attending must be accompanied by an adult, at least 10 years old, and able to behave as other adults. Children also cost $25, but this can be combined with the adult admission and applied towards the purchase of a female dairy animal within three years.
  • No children under 10 permitted except nursing infants who are carried. (Not suitable for strollers.)
• Discuss animal housing, fencing, pasture, and feed considerations throughout the year.
• Animal health topics covered including breeding, lambing, and routine care.
• Time demands and management 
• Milk handling and process is NOT the focus of this event, though topics may be discussed at the end if time permits.
• Attendees are encourage to bring methods to take notes. You may also audio record the event with the understanding that no audio, video, or images are posted online.
